Welcome Message from Mayor Richard Howorth »

Oxford, Mississippi, was first incorporated as a town in 1837, and was given its name after the town of Oxford, England in the hopes of securing Mississippi's first university. The University of Mississippi was chartered in 1841 and opened its doors to students in 1848. Oxford's growth in the next century made it an attractive place to settle. Among those who made their home here was the family of William Faulkner in 1902.

Oxford's Town BBQ Throwdown -  October 24 - 25 is a weekend of food, fun, and festivities as teams compete for over $20,000 in cash and prizes in the 2nd annual competition. Proceeds from the event will benefit the United Way of Oxford and OCVB.

Gameday Shuttle -  
The City of Oxford will provide shuttle service to and from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for all 2008 Ole Miss home games.

Proposed Bus Routes -  The Oxford - University Transit Commission has proposed a North-South and East-West route for the new bus service.

Curbside Recycling - Curbside recycling begins October 6th, but you must sign up in order to participate!  Residents that participated in the pilot recycling program must sign up also.
