The Mayor's Commission on Disability Issues Regular Meetings: First Tuesday of the month at 10:00 am in the conference room of city hall.
The Mayor's Commission on Disability Issues keeps tabs on disability accessibility in Oxford. They review current access and provide guidance to the City regarding the ADA compliance of businesses and city programs. Meetings are open to the public but please call the Mayor's office to confirm the meeting occurrence. For any other questions concerning disability accessibility or other disability matters, please contact the Mayor's office (662-232-2340). The Commission bylaws are listed below in a PDF document.

The City of Oxford heartily supports, promotes, and enforces the Americans with Disabilities Act and the International Building Code, including the American National Standards Institute’s ANSI-1A117.1. All new commercial buildings, renovations and multi-family dwellings are required to conform to the ADA and ANSI code.

A primary goal of the city is that all buildings and other access areas become fully accessible over time. The city actively encourages ADA adaptation for all residential construction by asking builders and developers to follow universal design guidelines, a copy of which is available from the Building Official’s office, and may be found here.

Homes built with universal design features require very little cost and are finding increasingly broader appeal in today’s real estate market. For further information, questions, ideas, or concerns about building accessibility in Oxford, please contact City Building Official Randy Barber, at 232-2342.
