Phase I of this project is to create the "backbone" portion: a continuous path from Molly Barr Road south to Thacker Mountain. Preliminary engineering is underway with bidding scheduled to take place in the fall of 2005. The initial phase of this project will create a pathway along McElroy Drive to Molly Barr Road. The new pathway will then run from Molly Barr Road along the old railroad bed to Gertrude Ford Boulevard, and then onto Old Taylor Road. (There are already bike lanes along Molly Barr Road.) A special bridge crossing Highway 6 will be constructed to connect the north and south portions of Old Taylor Road . The pathway will then head along the TVA power line areas west where the paved portion will end. Heading southwest to Thacker Mountain will be an unpaved trail that includes fitness stations along the path. The Hwy 6 bridge and Park Drive segments shown on the map will not be undertaken at this time. Phase I Update: The Pathways project Phase I is currently under construction.
