The Mayor and seven Board of Aldermen make  policy decisions in accordance with procedures and responsibilities set out in State law

The Board of Aldermen of the City of Oxford, Mississippi is composed of seven members.  Six aldermen are elected according to their respective wards, and one aldermen elected at-large.  Both the Mayor and the Board are elected for four year terms.  The next election will be held in June 2009. 

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen hold regular business meetings on the first and third Tuesday of each month at in the Courtroom of City Hall at 6:00 p.m. When a regular meeting of the Mayor and Board falls upon a holiday, the Mayor and Board shall meet the following day at the same place and time. The Mayor and Board may recess either meeting from time to time to convene on a day fixed by an order of the Mayor and Board, entered on its minutes, and may transact any business coming before it for consideration. In all cases it shall require a majority of all aldermen to constitute a quorum for the transaction of business.
